With a strong belief in the strength of co-creation and integration of actions to address intricate human development issues, Dr. Alice M. Mwangi is responsible for leading and guiding 3UJ Development Ltd in alignment with its mission and values. She has over 27 years of broad experience in management, implementation and evaluation of large development programs, academic programs, and conventional and implementation research in Nutrition and Health, and Food and Nutrition Security, with multilateral (USAID, EU, UN) and local development agencies.
Dr. Mwangi was the Deputy Chief of Party of the Kenya Nutrition and Health Program plus (NHPplus Program) at FHI360, Kenya (2015-2019) where she provided operational leadership and oversight to the program for both management and technical program implementation. She also was a Co- Investigator of an Implementation Research study to improve Iron & Folic Acid Supplements (IFAS) intake in Kenya. She has worked as a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Applied Nutrition Programme (ANP) Unit at the University of Nairobi since 2002., where she has been responsible for managing the unit, teaching. She was instrumental in conceptualizing, mobilizing resources, implementing and supervising both research and academic projects for the unit.
Mwangi served as the Kenya Team Lead for the 5-year EU-7th Framework research project on Novel Staple Food-based Strategies to Improve Micronutrient Status for Better Health and Development in Sub-Saharan Africa (INSTAPA, 2008 – 2014) that involved 11 countries and produced a total of four PhDs and over 10 MScs. Dr. Mwangi has provided nutritional technical assistance through consultancy assignments with USIAD-KEA, UNICEF, FAO, AMREF, World Vision Kenya and other development agencies
Mwangi was a member of the National Task Force that developed the Code of Practice Bill (2007), and served on the inaugural Board (2008), of the Kenya Nutritionists and Dieticians Institute. She is a former chairperson of the Kenya Coalition for Action in Nutrition (2006 – 2008) and currently a member of the African Nutrition Society.
